Body contouring is something that many patients opt for after they've lost weight. Even though weight loss can give you a new body, it might leave behind stubborn fat in certain areas like the hips and the belly. Body contouring at Michael Silao, MD, allows Echo Park, Los Angeles, area patients the chance to eliminate those fat pockets in a noninvasive manner.
Body contouring is a type of fat removal that's usually done in patients after weight loss. There are two different types of body contouring: nonsurgical and surgical.
Nonsurgical body contouring is a noninvasive option for fat removal. Dr. Silao offers this option in his office, and even uses the leading body sculpting system available: SculpSure®. It requires no hospital stay and no recovery time. No anesthesia is needed because the process is painless.
With SculpSure body contouring, the fat deep under your skin is targeted with a laser. This laser disrupts the fat cells, causing their eventual destruction. Those destroyed fat cells will then leave your body naturally over the coming weeks -- no invasive suction and incisions needed.
Surgical body contouring involves surgical removal of both skin and fat and is typically done in patients who have lost a very large amount of weight, for example after bariatric surgery patients. Surgical body contouring requires:
During a body contouring treatment, you'll lie on the treatment table comfortably. There are a total of four treatment paddles. These paddles are placed on top of the areas where the extra fat exists.
The SculpSure laser then directs heat into the center of the targeted fat cells. This causes the fat cells to self-destruct, and the fat will be liquefied. That liquefied fat will then move into the bloodstream and be eliminated in the same way that normal waste products are removed from the body.
The process only takes 25 minutes per area.
Body contouring yields results over time. The majority of patients will notice results within two to six weeks after treatment. At around 12 weeks, you'll usually have the optimal results.
Many patients need only one body contouring session. However, if you want further sculpting, you can discuss additional treatments with Dr. Silao.
